Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between coaching and counseling?

To be honest, not much and a whole lot. Coaching is a new trend and many “coaches” have definitions that set therapist into a completely different field. This is simply not true. Coaching is and has always been just one aspect of therapy/counseling. Coaching is the setting of goals, accountability and support, working with the client where they are at and focusing on the present. These are all the basic foundations of therapy. Most therapeutic relationship tend to go beyond this level of support into deeper family issues or needs.

How they are different is that a therapist is educated and trained to additionally work with more clinical issues and mental health diagnosis, where coaches are not. The biggest difference in the two professions come from the education and training. Coaches can take a 10 hour online class and be a coach or they can do a 6-12 month intensive training . The quality of the training comes from the institute offering it. There are no rules or regulations for coaches to have any level of training or education. A therapist or licensed counselor has to have a masters degree and complete 3000 hours of clinical training and be licensed with their state board. They have to take 36 hours of continuing education classes every two years to keep their license active.

I love both professions. When deciding which is a better fit for you, consider that normally a coach works with stable people looking to improve on an area of their life through focused goals and accountability. A therapist would be needed if you are struggling with past issues of childhood, more clinical issues of depression and anxiety, or abusive relationships.

I am licensed and trained as both a coach and a therapist. Although at this time, due to the nature of my business and having clients from all over the world, I am only offering services to people wanting/needing a coaching relationship.

What is the cost of services and do you accept insurance?

Please see Fees and Packages under the service section for details on pricing. I do not accept insurance as a coach. Coaching services are not reimbursed by insurance companies. I will send you a bill and ask that payment be made within 24hours of the session, if paying per session. If paying for a package, the package must be paid within 24hours of first session to be eligible for the discount.

I accept payment through Paypal, Paypal credit card (you don’t need Paypal to use), Zelle or VENMO.

I ask that you stay current on payments so to not effect the coaching relationship.

Do you have a cancelation policy?

Yes, I ask that if you need to cancel, please let me know as soon as possible. If cancellation is made less than 12 hours before your scheduled appointment, you will be charged for the appointment. I understand that last minutes emergencies come up and those can be addressed when needed.

How long will it take to see changes?

That will depend on how hard you want to work. If you have a longer list of goals and will be addressing some long standing imbedded habits and behaviors, I would recommend at least a 6 month commitment. If you are setting a single goal, you plan to do your homework, and are committed to the change, I have seen people make changes in 1-3 months. It is hard to set a specific time since everyone has different life styles that play into the program. For example, if you are a single mom, it is not fair to say you have the same time and energy of someone without children or if you are a person who has a willing partner to do the work with you vs someone who has a partner that may not be fully on board. We can make a game plan specific to you and be sure it works with your schedule and your financial ability.

Do both partners have to participate if the goal is about the relationship?

No, ideally sure that would be great but I have seen incredible growth in relationships where only one partner was willing to set goals and have the accountability from a professional. We will work closely to monitor any resentment that you are taking this step alone and look for change in the dynamic of the relationship when just one person changes up behaviors and habits. It is important to remember that just because your partner is not where you are at in the comfort of seeking help, does not mean they don’t love you or are not committed to the relationship. We can set goals to help you become the partner you want to be and also to ask and set limits for what you need in return.

Is what we talk about confidential?

Yes, everything discussed is confidential and between you and your coach. There are a few limits to confidentiality and those are as follows:

  1. child abuse
  2. elder abuse
  3. harm to self or others
  4. if in couples coaching, I ask for a no secrets policy. This allows for the coaching relationship to remain equal for both partners and focused on common goals.

If you are working with other individuals or if there is someone you would like me to talk to, I would request your permission in writing before talking to anyone about your goals and our work together.
